When he was a little boy, growing up surrounded by sisters,
I was often at a loss what to do for him. I could think of all kinds of hair accessories, toys, clothing etc to make for my girls, but not too much for my boy. Fortunately, my sister had almost as many sons as I had daughters, and she had lots of ideas for boy-type crafts. One year for Christmas she sent a very clever gift she had made - a reversible super hero cape, with Superman on one side and Batman on the other. He didn't seem to have a favorite... one day he'd be Superman, the next Batman. But he loved the cape and wore it as often as he could, until he outgrew it and moved on to other pursuits.
A little while ago, I was thinking about my son as a little boy, and my wonderful grandson who lives so far away from me, and I decided to make E a cape like his uncle had. I did a quick search and found just the pattern I needed at Puking Pastilles, and this is what I ended up with...
As you can see, I wasted my time making it reversible.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea and I bet he will enjoy it so much!
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember the days when my little boys loved their capes. Now I need them for my grandsons, they would love these. I have girl dress ups, so why not. Have to go whip some up.
ReplyDeleteThat brings back great memories! My boys loved their capes. My daughter very rarely wears hers. I borrowed it last year for Halloween. :o) Lovely idea to make it reversible. Your grandson is a sweetheart and will certainly treasure this gift for years. Thanks for sharing. Happy Sewing! :o)

I'm married to the only boy with 4 sisters. It's a hard place to be, adding the only outside estrogen and outside parenting style (since the mom's kind of choose that path). Not fun at all. I myself grew up with only sisters. So neither my husband or I know how to deal with boys very well. I love this idea, and would love to make it! Thank you for linking up to Topsy Turvy Tuesdays!
ReplyDeleteThat is totally adorable. Really any boy or girl would love it! I am sure my 3 1/2 year old girl would go nuts. I may just have to add this to my todo list for her for Christmas! Thank you for linking to It's Stinkin' Cute Craft Thursday!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he's one happy little superhero! Very cute! Thanks for sharing at It's Party Time Thursday at PonyTails&FishScales!
