Pillowcase Fun

A couple of years ago, I wanted to do something for my grandson and my several daughters who were living away from home during the holidays. I decided to make holiday pillowcases for them to decorate their rooms with. I started with Halloween...

When E got his pumpkin-y ghost case in the mail, he called me to say "Good Pillow!" I almost DIED!!!

So I made a few for Christmas...

After the holidays, my daughter told me that my grandson wouldn't let her put a regular pillowcase back on his bed, so I made a couple that were not holiday specific just for him...

With two new grandchildren who are pillowcase-less, I must get on it. Here's how I make them.

You will need:
  • About a yard of novelty or other print fabric (45" wide)
  • 10-12 inches of contrast fabric (if desired)
  • 2-3 inches of a second contrast fabric if desired
  • thread, scissors, measuring tape, sewing machine etc.
The easiest way to make these is illustrated in the last photo with my grandchildren... Just sew the end and side of a yard of fabric and finish with about a 6 inch hem. For a fancier pillow case, add a contrasting hem, or a piping of a contrasting fabric.

I like to use 27" of main fabric and 11" of contrasting fabric.

With right sides together, attach contrast to main fabric.

Matching seams, sew side and edge of pillow case.

Press down contrasting fabric to form a large hem, then top stitch in place.
 And it's finished!
