Suit Yourself! {and a GIVEAWAY!}

Happy {MONDAY} everybody!

I recently acquired an {old}
smelly men's suit.

It was a men's size 42 that had been altered
to fit someone about 4'10".

I liked the pinstriping though, and decided
it would make a FABULOUS newsboy!

I made this hat for my son from
this great pattern and just loved it!

I washed the suit in the washer.
On warm.
{Explicitly} ignoring the tag instructions.
 It made the fabric nice and soft to work with.
(And got out the yucky smell)

De-constructing a suit can be tricky.
Here are a few pointers:

1) Get a pair of scissors
2) Cut that mother up!

I got quite a bit of fabric,

(I'm not loving this picture, but the material
is charcoal with burgundy and copper pin-striping)

And I got a nice chunk of lining

lovely, {shiny} polyester!

And I had more than enough fabric
to make two newsboy caps.

Important tip: When you're refashioning or
deconstructing an item, be sure to salvage all the notions
you can! I got 14 buttons off of this bad boy!

{So}, my intention was to make two
newsboy caps, but wouldn't you know it,
there was enough material for three!
That means {of course} that we're having a giveaway!

There are a few ways to enter:
(Please leave 1 comment per entry!)

A. Become a follower

2. Tell me your favorite kind of {cupcake}

D. Link this giveaway to your blog. (Include the link!)

And lastly, tell me the name of the 1990s movie where I got my very special numbering system.

The {winner} will be chosen via random number generator,
and the giveaway closes at midnight MST on July 3rd.

Winner will be announced Monday, July 5th!

Good Luck!

P.S. I need to say a very special {Thank YOU!} to my friend Louise, who lent me her spare sewing machine while mine is being serviced. Thank you, Louise! You'll probably never get it back, because it is waaaaaay nicer than mine! I don't think I can go back to my Singer after using your White!!!

  1. You are a talented one, Amberlou! And you really prefer a White over a Singer? Hm, I've never tried a White.

    I only see a tiny stripe of blue on the handsome model's shirt. Happy Blue Monday!

  14. visiting from Fire and Jellybeans...and I'm so glad I did! Love your blog, and love this hat! I have to make one for my five-year-old nephew...if I don't win one of yours!

    My favorite cupcake is vanilla, filled with lemon curd. BTW, you MUST read "The Icing on the Cake," it's a new chick lit book about a young woman from Dallas who starts a cupcake shop in NYC -- lots of great recipes!
